Becoming a mom was everything I thought it would be and more. I was intense with my kids, hovering and worrying like a lot of new moms do. I finished grad school as my son turned 1 and decided to create my own business out of teaching at the university so I could be home with him. 
I did juggle work with family but it was being a mom that was the most taxing. I never got enough sleep, was stressed out while awake, always on duty and didn't take care of myself the way I used too. 
I was still vegan, even practicing 100% raw food now and still just could not resurrect the energy I needed to get through the day. 
I ran when I could, yoga here and there, but my exercise habits suffered due to the lack of energy. Nothing seemed to work. I still had those last few pounds I wanted to lose but they wouldn't come off.
I muddled through this haze for a couple more years until my daughter was born. It was much worse during that time. I was now with 2 small kids every day, hardly time to take a bath let alone exercise. I would put my head down and close my eyes just for moments here and there. I was a vegan, raw. I didn't think I could do much better...but SO FREAKING TIRED. 
I decided I needed to push it up a notch, and went on a 3 day juice cleanse. Worst decision ever! A candida fungus had bloomed in me wreaking havoc on my immune system, hormones, mood and energy level. I was such a mess! How could this be?? I'm the healthiest person I know! 
I met with my chiropractic doctor who urged me to make some changes to my diet. I was resistant. You want me to EAT ANIMALS??? HELL NO…. -------------------

  • I WAS AN EXERCISE JUNKIE WHO COULD BARLEY WALK || LIFE SMACKED ME DOWN AND I NEEDED BLOOD. 
Just before I had my first baby I actually lost one. 
It was an ectopic pregnancy. An 8-week old fetus had grown in my Fallopian tube instead of the uterus and one day while getting ready to take a grad school exam the Fallopian tube burst and I nearly bled to death. 
Thank God for my mother and sister in law, who scooped me up off my living room floor and rushed me to the hospital. 
I received emergency surgery and because I had lost HALF MY TOTAL BODY BLOOD, received 2 blood transfusions. I spent the next couple of months recovering. 
My body was weak beyond belief. 
I had been a marathon runner, yogi and full time health and fitness addict, but at the time could barely walk. 
I swam every morning when the sun came up and would spend the rest of the day sitting, too tired for anything else. The stress on my body had taken a HUGE toll. I was totally weak, depressed and thought I had hit my ALL TIME LOW. -------------------

  • I WAS “SKINNY” I LOST 20LB WITH A “HEALTHY DIET” || BUT CONTINUED TO HAVE  STOMACH ISSUES AND CHRONIC FATIGUE

After a 20lb weight loss with a diabetic diet, I was excited to see how else I could alter my body! I had cut out beer, bread, pasta and dairy, but I still had sugar at times in the form of fat free products and alcohol. 
I had been exercising so much though, now running again for the first time since I was 16 (now 21) so I assumed I was doing great. Truth be told I had a lot of room for improvement, so I started to learn about other things that might help improve my health. 
I started to shift to a vegetarian diet, and dove into herbs as a source of help for all sorts of ailments. It was fascinating, and I was drawn into the world of plants, insatiable for learning. My body continued to improve, I had lost a  few more pounds from my original 142lb, to almost 122lb, and now held steady on my vegan diet as a runner. 
All was well for awhile, at least that's what I thought. I still had stomach issues, was extremely sensitive to Foods and still got tired easily. 
Then life took another direction. I got married and a few years later had my first baby. Life was about to get crazy! The time I spent taking care of myself now would go to my son, and new changes and challenges were ahead of me. -------------------

  • I TRIED TO SAVE MY DAD FROM A LIFE OF DIABETES AND STRUGGLE || IT DIDN’T WORK 
After making some good changes to my health with diet I was able to start exercising, which propelled my motivation to feel and look better. 
After all I was 22 and my body should've been strong, lean and energetic. To be honest I was a little bigger than I wanted to be, my skin didn't look great and I should have had way more energy. 
Like all teenagers I drank alcohol which made up some of that extra 20lb, but it was the food that kept me at a size 12 more than anything else! 
My dad at the time had been struggling with diabetes and I found a diet online specifically for diabetes. 
I decided I would make all his food for him, and while I was at it I would follow it as well. Who knows, maybe I will lose some weight! 
Dad didn't touch a single thing I made! But I followed it strictly, and a few months later had lost those 20 pounds. I was so excited! I looked better and felt better than ever. I felt attractive! 
The flicker of health grew to a flame and I became hungry to learn more. What else was possible?? -------------------

  • I WAS A SICK CHILD || THE BEGINNING OF ULCERATIVE  COLITIS AND 20 YEARS OF STRESS 
When I was a kid I ate a lot of meat, bread and dairy growing up in the Midwest. 
We were in the city but had family farms.  I never questioned the food until I was 19 and realized I was not happy with my body, and it seemed like I'd always had a stomachache after eating. I'd chalked it up to being born with a sensitive stomach. 
It also never occurred to me that I was pretty tired for a young person, needing naps and feeling lazy and lethargic was my norm. 
Then one day my mom mentioned to me that when I was a baby I'd had recurrent ear infections and had been on antibiotics for them. They went away after she took dairy out of my diet, as the doctor suggested. 
Somehow, it had made its way back though, but it occurred to me I may be allergic to it so decided to take on a dairy free diet, and to my surprise things did start happening!

I began to have fewer stomachache aches, and my fatigue was slightly reduced. I had enough to start going to a new gym and taking aerobics classes, and slowly my body began to change. 
What I didn't know was this was just the beginning of my journey, and it was the flicker of what would eventually become a roaring fire of change in my life.
