Should you incorporate essential oils into your family wellness routine?
From my 15 years of experience in studying Public Health as well as Holistic Health (and from 13 years being a mom) I will give you a resounding YES! Drug medications are widely accepted as the norm for every ailment from a bug bite to a sore throat, but are not always necessary. Give your child the opportunity to fight illness with their own immune system and handle discomfort naturally, safely with no side effects.

Here are my TOP 10 ESSENTIAL OILS that you can use for your little one’s to help them feel better or get better when they are sick or have some sort of illness even if it’s a scrape or a burn. I’m also going to share how to use essential oils as well as a few recipes that you can use when you need them!

Tips On Using Essential Oils

– Use 1-2 drops of oil, externally only for kids 13 and under
– Dilute essential oils in 4 oz of coconut oil unless applying to the bottoms of the feet
– Use oils from the neck down, always avoiding face and eyes

Essential Oils Safe For Children

Melaleuca Oil – AKA Tea tree oil is an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial essential oil. You can use it for cuts, scraps, burns, bug bites, and as a bug repellent. It does not hurt when you apply it, however it does have a medicinal scent.

Lavender Oil – has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Use it to sooth and calm as well as for first aid, sunburn, and to boost immunity. This is perfect for bug bites as well because it helps with pain and itching.

Peppermint Oil – a digestive aid and can be used to help with gas, nausea and indigestion. It can also help to cool fevers and act as a decongestant with colds. Make sure to dilute this oil in water or coconut oil… it’s strong!

Eucalyptus Oil – most well-known for it’s use as a decongestant for respiratory disorders. It also works to cool fevers and has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.

Citrus Oils – Includes wild orange, grapefruit and lemon which are mood-enhancing oils, and they smell wonderful! They are know to calm over stimulated children and also make great non-toxic hand sanitizing sprays.

Frankincense – good for infections because of its anti-bacterial properties and is often used with respiratory congestion. If there is inflammation, this is your oil.

5 Simple Children’s Remedies Using Essential Oils

Congestion Steam
Use 2 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil in one quart of hot water. Hold face over bowl {close enough for comfort} with towel draped over bowl and head. Inhale steam deeply for 5 – 10 minutes. This is a great time to have a diffuser!

Nighttime Massage Oil
Use 2 drops of lavender essential oil and 10 drops chamomile essential oil in one ounce of sweet almond oil. Massage into skin before bed to promote a restful night’s sleep. You can also mist it on their bedding, its scent is divine!

Cuts & Scraps Healing Salve
Use 1 drop Tea Tree essential oil and 1 drops of Lavender essential oil mixed with one ounce of melted coconut oil. Allow to harden and apply as needed.

Earache Oil
Combine 2 drops of lavender essential oil and 2 drops of frankincense oil to one ounce of coconut oil. Place 2-3 drops of the diluted oil around the ear painful ear 2-3 times a day as needed.

Energy Bath
Place 2 drops of lemon essential oil in the bath tub. Mix well and bath as normal.
