Rethink Holiday Drinks

WINE IS NOT HEALTHY FOR YOUR HEART OR ANY PART OF YOUR BODY. This is hard to say, especially since I live in Southern California where wine is MAYBE second most consumed to coffee. Wine is one of the most popular drinks year-round, but alcohol, in general, flows steadily during the holiday season.

Remember that wine is fermented juice, and most people know that grape juice is a sugar bomb but they don’t give the wine the same merit.

Why I Gave Up Wine and Alcohol

I gave up wine several years ago and now rarely drink at all simply because it made me feel so bad. Its effects on my mood, sleep, anxiety, and how I looked in the mirror were profound and I look and feel much better now than when I drank alcohol.

The sugar in most alcohol drinks would cause a cascade of blood sugar dysregulation that took me days to recover from. This made me moody, tired and craving carbs like crazy.

Any alcohol interrupts my sleep and that is a total deal-breaker!
Hormones can easily get disrupted by the effect on adrenals, but also can contribute to estrogen dominance.

If you want to age faster and have wrinkly crepey skin, keep drinking alcohol. Alcohol degrades your skin through dehydration and glycation creating AGE’s (Advanced Glycation End Products. It can be a factor in aging of the skin and of all sorts of chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Kidney Disease, Diabetes and more.

How to Be Festive with Alcohol

Although alcoholic drinks are part of the social gatherings on the holidays, the sugar content that wreaks havoc. The sugar content in alcohol increases impacts hormones, sleep, weight gain, aging and increased risk of diseases like cancer and diabetes. Cutting the sugar will help reduce these but cutting alcohol altogether would be even better. What will you do with all that extra morning energy?!

Moderation is always key!

Save the drinks for rare occasions, it will remind you how great it is to be sober! During the holidays try out some sugar-free mixes or flavored vodkas. Shoot for the least amount of sugar possible in your cocktails. Remember that wine is fermented juice, and most people know that grape juice is a sugar bomb but they don’t give the wine the same merit.
